Biography

Dr. Blumberg is recognized as a leader in his field, as evidenced by his serving as co-chair of the ATS/CDC/IDSA committee that composed the guidelines for treatment of TB in the United States, his Chairmanship of the IDSA Tuberculosis Committee, and longstanding membership on the Advisory Council for the Elimination of Tuberculosis for the U.S. CDC. Dr. Blumberg is an active investigator and PI at the Emory/DeKalb County Board of Health site (in metropolitan Atlanta) for the CDC-funded TBESC; this site has been the lead enroller in that multi-center national research group. Dr. Blumberg also is PI of a NIH Fogarty International Center grant in the Republic of Georgia focused on research training and a similar grant in Ethiopia which is anticipated to be funded in the second half of 2013. He is internationally recognized for his contributions in the areas of TB-related clinical and translational research; he is the author of more than 120 peer-reviewed publications.
